Nightscaping – Rebuilding some special fixtures
0A couple in Dallas have had special lighting in their tree beside their patio for many years. The fixtures are special to them – they were bought on their anniversary and the husband installed them himself. Over the years, he’s changed light bulbs and tried to keep them going for his wife. Sadly, years have gone by without professional maintenance, and the tree has engulfed the wire, the squirrels have eaten it, and the sockets of the fixtures have cracked and broken out. I’m going to re-build them.
Lighting Nature
0On a recent trip to Natural Bridge Caverns, near San Antonio, Texas, I had the opportunity to visit with several exceptional lighting designers, and see – in person, one of nature’s wonders. Part of the excitement of the private “Illuminations” tour was hearing the interesting stories associated with the cavern and its discovery. We were also graced with a visit from the tiny resident bats, but the most exhilarating was the moment all the lights went out. We were seated, facing what was suddenly revealed in a luminous glow – the translucent flowstone, lit professionally by completely hidden fixtures. The effect was simply spectacular.
Lighting Photography Seminar with George Gruel
2George Gruel of Oddstick Studios presented an informative session about photographing outdoor lighting projects, aimed at teaching lighting designers to put their best look forward. George is an interesting guy.
“George is a superlative presenter, giving relevant and detailed instruction how to create and edit landscape lighting photography. His vast experience, excellent levels of achievement and great humor lend expertise and understanding to his classroom lecture and presentations.”
